LTC Lunch - Teaching with Students: Strategies for Training and Supervision
Many offices, departments and individuals across campus involve student workers in a variety of ways in their teaching and academic support programs. These include TAs, tutors, prefects, consultants, facilitators, and other student work roles on campus. Many supervisors have been engaging in conversations about this work, common challenges and ways to collaborate. This LTC session, organized by members of the Teaching with Students Community of Practice, seeks to further these conversations and share strategies more broadly, particularly around training and development of their student workers. The panelists, made up of staff and faculty, will share the following:
- What does training and development of your students in teaching-related roles look like in your program/office/course?
- What have you learned about what is effective (or not as effective!) in training and supervising your students in teaching-related roles?
- What strategies would you share for other supervisors? What suggestions do you have for those who are considering involving student workers in their teaching?
- What would you consider to be some challenges or areas of growth in training and supervision of these students in your program/office/course? What kinds of support would help you better meet those challenges?
